A Martial Arts Teacher Inspired by Bodhi Dharman and later Bruce Lee dedicated 30 years of His Life to train students of Delhi NCR. Learning and teaching martial arts has become a purpose of his life. Sumit
Virman, a martial arts teacher from South India has dedicated his 30 years of life to teaching the martial arts of excellence to the students. Now he is a synonym in the whole of Delhi NCR.
“Martial arts are systems of codified practices andtraditions of training for combat. An early legend in martial arts tells the tale of the Indian monk Bodhidharma believed to have lived around 550 A.D in
the southern part of India. He is credited with founding the meditative philosophy of Zen Buddhism and influencing the unarmed combat arts of the Shaolin temple in China. The martial virtues of discipline, humility, restraint and respect are attributed to this philosophy,” said Sumit Virman
Notably, Sumit is not employed in any organization orgovernment services, but he is providing employment to the students through his hard work. He is training the students on his own without the help of the government or any charity organization. His dedication towards the students is
commendable.
For the past 30 years he has been teaching the martial artsof Karate and Kickboxing and trying to create awareness among people that martial arts trained people are not only physically and mentally strong but
also have the ability to defend themselves in any situation. 5th Dan Black Belt, Virman trained under the guidance andmentorship of his guru Sensei R Murugam, is associated with many renowned institutions like Times Group, DLF Club and many schools in the city. But he prefers to remain low profile due to his humble nature.
But he is particularly concerned about the training of girlsin martial arts. “Today, as the crime rate is increasing, women should know how they can stay safe by using self defense techniques. Today women have to move out of their homes for different works. It can be going to the place of work, going to an unfamiliar place, waiting in a secluded place for buses and cabs, walking in dark and shady areas. So if a woman is trained in martial arts she can defend her all the time." Sumit Virman's description.
“I may not be financially strong but I am satisfied that I amtraining a lot of people and giving them a new lease of life. That is my satisfaction,” he said emotionally. Having participated in several national and internationalcompetitions and won several medals at the 1993 National Open Championship, Virman is qualified to teach martial arts classes on karate, kickboxing and provide fitness training classes for every level of learner.
His Kaishogun Martial Arts Sports and Kickboxing Academyconducts several classes for women, which teach them to defeat stronger and bigger enemies using almost every part of the body. But making martial arts accessible to all is the real challenge for them. "I think the purpose of martial arts is to reach as many people as possible through the media and social media,"in Sumit said.
He is very optimistic about the future of Martial Arts inIndia particularly in Delhi.
