Imagine a young student, Ananya, who has just stepped intoclass 9. Her parents, noticing that almost every other child in their circle is enrolling in JEE/NEET coaching, feel compelled to do the same for her. However, at this tender age, Ananya is still exploring her interests and is unsure if Engineering or Medicine is the right path for her. Enrolling her in rigorous coaching without this clarity could limit her exposure to other career options and hinder her overall personal and emotional development.
When students start coaching early, their focus tends to narrow down to just these two career paths, often at the expense of exploring other fields where they might truly excel. At 14 or 15, children are still
developing, both mentally and emotionally. Making such a significant and long-term career decision at this age could be premature, as it doesn’t allow them the freedom to discover where their true passions and strengths lie.
However, if a student is clear about their chosen path, theycan decide when to start coaching based on their confidence and readiness. For others, the intensity of coaching can overshadow other crucial aspects of a child’s life. High school is a vital period for emotional, social, and personal growth. Students should be engaging in various activities that help them develop holistically, but the demands of coaching often leave
little time for anything outside academics.
Opting for coaching from class 11 instead of class 9 offersa much more balanced approach. By this time, students like Ananya have had the opportunity to explore different careers and understand their own interests and strengths. They are more mature, better equipped to handle the pressure, and can make informed decisions about their future. Starting coaching at this later stage ensures that they are genuinely committed to the path they choose and are able to manage the rigorous demands without sacrificing their personal development or school life.
