The Corporate Sustainability Council (CSC) WICCI under the guidance of its National President Sonali Dutta, conducted a thought-provoking virtual panel discussion on "Women’s Health & Environmental Wellness: Sanitary Pad Solutions," on October 26, 2023, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
Ms.Dutta said that this panel discussion was timely and aimed at individuals and
corporates alike for taking a holistic view of manufacture, distribution and disposal of Sanitary Napkins in a sustainable environmental friendly framework. The panel discussion delved into various aspects of menstrual health, the environmental impact of sanitary products and innovative solutions to address these challenges.
The discussion was moderated by Renuka Salwan, CSC State Head, Chandigarh, WICCI
and featured a panel of distinguished experts. She revolved the discussions based on issues related to women's health, environmental sustainability and social equity. She motivated all to join hands for collective mission to promote women's health and environmental wellness through effective sanitary pad solutions.
Arun Gupta - Managing Trustee and President of Pinkishe Foundation, a renowned
Menstrual Health Leader dedicated to spreading menstrual literacy and sustainable menstrual products made significant strides in addressing period poverty and have distributed over 5 million free sanitary pads. They have presence in 25 cities across India covering 2 lakh women.
Prof.Seema Kapoor, Faculty Advisor of ENACTUS, Panjab University and member CSC
,highlighted the significance of eco-friendly reusable cloth pads developed under the CSR project Amodini of Versatile Textiles Pvt. Ltd., Ludhiana. The event also featured a presentation by Shubham Dhiman, President of ENACTUS team of Panjab University & Preet Kanwal, former President of Enactus and member of CSC. They expressed dedication of Enactus team in creating impactful change and sustainable solutions in women's health.
MuzafferAli - Team Leader KHUSHII, CSR of legendry cricketer Kapil Dev's foundation, works with vulnerable and less privileged children and communities to ensure no child is left behind. They have transformed the lives of over 1.5 million women and children in 19 years.
AasawariKane - Founding Member of Padcare Labs has developed an end-to-end disposal system for used pads, including recycling of used Sanitary Pads . Her
innovative solutions in sanitary pad disposal were a highlight of the discussion.
Namrata,Founder of NGO Anahat is working to ensure sexual and reproductive health
rights to women and children with special focus on menstruation. They are providing alternative livelihood option to women through making reusable cloth pads.
Thepanel discussion covered a range of topics, including sustainable menstrual products, menstrual health awareness, and themportance of proper sanitary pad disposal. The participants engaged in a lively exchange of ideas and experiences, shedding light on the critical issues surrounding women's health and environmental sustainability.
Thee vent was attended by a diverse audience of over 80+ people from all over India
who were keen to gain insights into the intersection of women's health and sustainability. It was also live stream on Facebook.
