Indian economy is doing great and stock market is at all-time high. Investors have
made very good return and still putting more money. Lot of young persons have
joined the market either directly or through mutual fund and other investment
routes in last few years.
Young minds are always inquisitive and want to explore different options. Financial
intermediaries are also providing themwith a lot of option. Few other investments avenues like direct stock investing, Portfolio Management Services(PMS), Peer to peer lending(P2P), Alternative investment funds (AIF), Unlisted securities, Retail Govt. debt are easily available online and can be managed on mobile phone. Such options also catch attention of young minds as they have tech convenience, and give sense of being evolved in investment journey beyond
conventional Mutual Fund.
One must know that technology is enabler for investment. Decision of investing should be driven by financial risk and return. Lot of these products are good options and will provide good value in future but most of the new investors do not evaluate financial risks as they may not be equipped to do so.
A lot of these options are still not well regulated as they are still evolving. They are not so liquid and one may not be able to encash quickly. A lot of new innovations which work in bull market may turn a huge loss-making proposition in a downturn.
One must take help of a good financial advisor if not equipped to evaluate financial risk and return before taking plunge. Don’t do investment only if it offers tech convenience and promoted attractively, look at underlying financial risk and return.
