Prof.Ram Singh, Former Director, HRM and Head Entomology, CCS Haryana Agricultural University
Hisar has received Harold Maxwell-Lefroy Memorial Award-2022 in the 4th National Conference on “Recent Advancesin Agriculture and allied Sciences, Pharmaceutical and Environmental Sciences”
organised by Dr. B.V. David Foundation at Chennai on October 01, 2022
Prof Singh was nominated by the National Award Committee on the bases of his contribution in teaching Agricultural Entomology to 2100 UG and 500 PG students for 35 years at HAU, Hisar. Prof Singh also guided 25 PG students, authored 8 books and published 200 research articles in various national and International Journals.
HaroldMaxwell-Lefroy was First Imperial Entomologist to Govt of India from 1903 to 1912 and published two ground-breaking books on “Indian Insect Pests (1906)”and “Indian Insect Life (1909)”. Lefroy shifted to Imperial College, London in 1913 as Professor of Entomology and served in many countries like Australia,New Zealand and Caribbean Islands. He is called as Father of Entomology in India.
DrBV David Foundation instituted an award in the memory of this legendry world leader in Entomology. BVD Foundation conferred the 2022 award on Prof Ram Singh for his contribution as recommended by the Award Committee. Prof Ram Singh was also honoured with ICAR Sponsored Best Teacher Award in 2007 and now working as Independent Peripatetic Environmental Bioecologist to evaluate the impact of human activities on the natural biodiversity.
