Investment in Career Counselling Services
Investment in Career Counselling Services
Written By Seema Nagar
A lot of students these days are fighting mental health problems like stress, anxiety, and even depression. I met one such student a couple of weeks ago. He was having frequent panic attacks, and the sole reason
was his career choice. He wasn't able to cope with the subjects he had opted for and felt left behind in school when all his peers were scoring well while he barely passed.
Concluding with the first session, I realized that he would have done much better at a different stream, as his strengths and interests were entirely different. This decision led to a waste of parents' money on different classes, time, as well as energy.
Parents hesitate to invest in career guidance services fortheir children, assuming that they will figure it out on their own, or one should go with the science stream only. They assume that their children will naturally gravitate towards a certain career path or that they will be able to make informed decisions based on the information they find online. However, this is often not the case. At this tender age, without proper guidance and support, children may struggle to identify their strengths and weaknesses, explore different career options, and make informed decisions about their future.
However, this decision can end up costing them more in the long run. This results in frustration,
additional expenses, and delayed graduation. On the other hand, career counseling can provide childrenwith a sense of direction and purpose. It can help them understand their strengths and how they can apply them in the work force.
It can also help them identify areas for improvement and develop the skills they need to succeed in their chosen career path. This can lead to better job prospects and higher salaries in the future, which can be a significant return on investment for parents. Investing in career counseling can help children make moreinformed decisions and save parents money in the long run.
