Despite hailing from a service class family from an interior village ofRohtak-Bhalout and with no business knowledge, Deepak Phougat and Vikas Phougat two brothers who moved to Canada in the year of 2006 and today they are top retailers of entire Canada in the petrol pump business.
Both the brothers started their petrol pump business in the year of 2011under their company named as "Haryanvi Brothers Ltd '' (HBL). With the hard work of 12 years Phougat brothers has reached unbelievable heights of success and now they are the top Retailer of Canada with more than 300 employees and a staggering turnover of 900 cores. Their business empire is spread in several states of Canada like British Colombia, Alberta and Saskatchwen.
After completion of his Degree in English literature, Deepak enrolledfor his Master programme in Computer Science. Soon he joined Reliance Petro-Chemical in Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City Mumbai. After two years of work there he got his permanent residency in Canada. In 2006, he moved to Canada in search of better career prospective . He got a full-time job in Canada. Side by side he also started doing some menial jobs in the restaurant industry.
In 2006, Deepak got married to Vandana, his classmate during IT courses.Recalling his days of struggle Deepak, "Soon after marriage Vandana also moved to Canada and she too got a good job, Life was going smoothly. Both the couple also enrolled for several professional courses from there. Both Deepak and Vandana cleared 14examinations on National Construction Safety Officer. Deepak had done Project management professional and Project managementcertification courses.
"There was no one in the business in my family. When I was alone inCanada I had no idea about business. But when my brother also joined me in Canada life took a U Turn. After doing a job for several years Vikas expressed his desire to do business. We took out a loan and started our first business in the retail sector of oil and gas. Those were very hard times in our life and full of struggle, I used to do job and helped my brother in his business. We did lots of research and experiments in venture and finally made it one of the
best revenue generating models and there was no looking back," said Deepak.
"I was in the operation and Deepak used to look into management,finance, business expansion, and bringing new brands to business. Along with Gas and Petrol we also entered into the food and restaurant business and thereby diversified our business," said Vikas.
Their father late Satpal Phougat was Deputy Director in the agriculture department of Haryana Government and Mother Sushila Phougat was a housewife. Their parents tried their utmost to give the best of education to both the brothers. It is to be noted that they are the cousins of Gajender Phougat who
is the OSD to present Chief Minister of Haryana.
In 2nd March 2023 in the City of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Vikas PHOUGATwas awarded by VP Canada Mobility Kent Martin, DM Bruce Miller and Barbara as "Canada Country Retailer of the Year" which makes our Nation so proud. Deepak and Vandana is blessed withtwo sons- Dhruv and Alvin and his brother Vikas and Kavita is blessed with Rudransh.
Deepak is quite disciplined in his work, he likes travelling,reading and exploring new places. Both the brothers do lots of charity. Every year they sponsor two big feasts to their ancestral place where more than ten thousand people take food together. They have donated a kitchen for the widows of Radhakund which is run by Hiranmoyee India Foundation. They have constructed several community centres for the Indian community in Haryana, Europe, Canada and USA. Besides that, they are also helping students from marginal backgrounds from time to time.
